Invasion of the Body Snatchers
Past Events
The Danube Institute's series of film evenings: movies that throw light on communist or post-communist societies.
On 30th September at 5.30 pm we showed Invasion of the Body Snatchers, a 1956 American science fiction film directed by Don Siegel which has acquired cult status. Largely ignored by the critics on its initial run, the film has since enjoyed wide critical acclaim.
The film depicts an extraterrestrial invasion that begins in a fictional Californian town.
Initially, the film was seen as an indictment of McCarthysm, but in retrospect critics have seen it as an indictmnent of communism and the loss of personal freedom that inevitably attends institutional socialism.
The film was introduced by Michael Walsh, a Hollywood screen writer, author and music critic who was interviewed on the film’s themes ands significance by Márton Baranyi.
Venue:   Batthyány Lajos Conference Room, 1067 Budapest, Eötvös u. 24.
Date:       30th September 2015.
