The Euro: Living with the Consequences
Past Events / Videos
Public lecture by Antonio Martino | 24th April 2015

Antonio Martino followed in his father’s footsteps as Italy's Minister of Foreign Affairs, but he does not share his political vision.

While Gaetano Martino was one of the participants of the Messina Conference in 1955, and played an influential role in preparing the Treaty of Rome which laid the foundations for the European Union, Antonio Martino is generally considered one of Italy's leading Eurosceptics.

In his lecture, he describes the risks and problems of the common currency, emphasizing that unity does not mean uniformity, and arguing that by reducing its member states' power, the EU is discrediting the European ideal.
