The EU and Israel: an uneasy relationship

Professor Eytan Gilboa (Israel Public Diplomacy Forum) and Dr. István Gyarmati (ICDT) talked about the Middle East.
 
On Monday, November 13th, from 14:30-17:00, Danube Institute hosted a discussion with Professor Eytan Gilboa, Chairman and Academic Director of Israel Public Diplomacy Forum.
 
The title of his talk was
 
The EU and Israel: An Uneasy Relationship
 
and additionally focused on the new shape of strategic competition in the Middle East and the new diplomacy between Israel and Central Europe.
 
He was joined by Dr. István Gyarmati, foreign and security policy expert and Director of the International Centre for Democratic Transition (ICDT).
 
 
Professor Eytan Gilboa is a renowned expert on international communication, public diplomacy and US policy in the Middle East.
 
Widely published, he is a regular commentator on these topics for international media and has won numerous international fellowships and awards. Gilboa's most recent books include Public Diplomacy in the Information Age (forthcoming), US-Israel Relations in a New Era: Issues and Challenges after 9/11 (2009), and Media and Conflict: Framing Issues, Policy Making, Shaping Opinions (2002).
 
He has held many professional and public positions, including adviser to the Prime Minister's office, the Ministry of Defense and Foreign Affairs, the Parliamentary Committee for Foreign Affairs and Defense, and the Government Press Office. He also was Chair of the Foreign Service Selection Committee. Professor Gilboa founded the School of Communication and the Center for International Communication at Bar-Ilan University in Israel, and served as the first director of both.
 
He received his MA and PhD in Government from Harvard University and a BA in Political Science and International Relations from the Hebrew University. He has been a visiting professor at several leading American and European universities and research institutes.
 
IPD Forum is a non profit, non partisan, non governmental, educational organisation established by Professor Eytan Gilboa to advance understanding of the Middle East and Israel. IPD Forum promotes dialogues and exchanges via joint educational programs and events with professional, academic, civic, business, and community organisations.
