UK Elections: Making Sense of the Results

Press briefing by John O'Sullivan | 11th May 2015

The British general election, which took place on Thursday 7th May 2015, produced an outcome which almost no one expected. Defying the pollsters who were universal in their prediction of a hung Parliament, David Cameron’s Conservative Party achieved a small overall parliamentary majority. It now seems certain that the new government will stage a referendum on British membership of the European Union, probably in 2017.

John O’Sullivan analyzed the results of the election and its possible implications for Britain’s European partners at a briefing for journalists, broadcasters and members of Budapest’s diplomatic community on Monday 12th May 2015.
