"The Future at the Gate" – Hungarian Premiere & Panel Discussion

The Danube Institute is pleased to host the Hungarian premiere of its first original documentary film, The Future at the Gate (A jövő a határon).

The film offers a compelling exploration of the impact of illegal migration on Europe and European culture, combining the insights of leading experts with the lived experiences of everyday people. Through these perspectives, it sheds light on one of the most pressing and defining challenges facing the continent today.

At a time when Europe stands at a crossroads, the question is no longer whether change is underway, but how it will be understood - and whether it will be met with clarity or hesitation. The documentary reflects on a growing divide between those who recognise emerging challenges early and act decisively, and those who confront them only when little remains to be preserved.

Hungary’s approach to migration stands at the centre of this debate. As a country that has taken on the responsibility of protecting Europe’s external borders, Hungary has also faced significant political and financial pressure from Brussels - yet its course remains unchanged.

Ultimately, the film raises a deeper and more unsettling question: not only what Europe will become, but whether there will still be anyone left to whom we can say - we saw this coming.

"A jövő a határon" – Magyarországi filmpremier és panelbeszélgetés

Örömmel jelentjük, hogy elérkezett az ideje, hogy a Danube Institute egy magyarországi premier keretében bemutassa első saját gyártású dokumentumfilmjét, melynek címe "A jövő a határon” (The Future at the Gate).

A film az illegális migráció Európára és az európai kultúrára gyakorolt hatását vizsgálja, vezető szakértők és hétköznapi emberek megszólaltatásán keresztül. E nézőpontok segítségével a kontinens egyik legégetőbb és legmeghatározóbb kihívására világít rá.

Egy olyan időszakban, amikor Európa sorsdöntő kérdésekkel néz szembe, a kérdés már nem az, hogy a változás elindult-e, hanem az, hogyan értelmezzük azt - és vajon kellő tisztánlátással vagy késlekedéssel reagálunk rá. A dokumentumfilm rámutat arra a növekvő törésvonalra, amely azok között húzódik, akik időben felismerik a kibontakozó kihívásokat és határozottan cselekszenek, valamint azok között, akik csak akkor szembesülnek velük, amikor már alig marad valami megőrzésre érdemes.

Magyarország migrációs politikája e vita középpontjában áll. Az ország nemcsak Európa külső határainak védelmében vállalt szerepet, hanem jelentős politikai és pénzügyi nyomással is szembe kellett néznie Brüsszel részéről - irányvonala azonban mindezek ellenére változatlan maradt.

A film végső soron egy mélyebb és nyugtalanítóbb kérdést vet fel: nem csupán azt, hogy milyen lesz Európa jövője, hanem azt is, hogy lesz-e még kinek azt mondanunk - mi időben szóltunk.

A vetítést követően a vendégeket panelbeszélgetésre várjuk, amelyen a filmben szereplő szakértők és közreműködők vesznek részt. A beszélgetés lehetőséget teremt a filmben felvetett kérdések mélyebb megvitatására, valamint egy nyílt és tartalmas eszmecserére. A beszélgetés nyelve angol.
