The Statesman as Thinker: Portraits of Greatness, Courage, and Moderation

Professor Daniel Mahoney is a distinguished American political philosopher, whose works include books on Alexander Solzhenitsyn, the papacy of Pope Francis, and a biography of Cardinal Mindszenty.  His most recent book, The Statesman as Thinker: Portraits of Greatness, Courage, and Moderation (Encounter Books),  was awarded the Conservative Book of the Year Award.  He takes particular interest in the works of modern French philosophers, such as Raymond Aron, and Pierre Manent.  His most recent work in this area is Recovering Politics, Civilization, and the Soul: Essays on Pierre Manent and Roger Scruton (St. Augustine’s Press).
