On 3rd March 2016, the Danube Institute held a small private lunch in honour of Leszek Balcerowicz, former Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister.

Mr Balcerowicz is the architect of the "shock therapy", which laid the foundation of Poland's economic recovery in the post-communist era.

Over lunch, Mr Balcerowicz talked about Europe's economic prospects, about the causes of difficulties with the euro and its relationship to economic performance, and discussed some approaches to tackling the problems besetting the single currency.
