Roadworks: Belt and Road Initiative From An African Perspective
Gyude Moore served as the Minister of Public Works in the Liberian government of Ellen Johnson Sirleaf from 2014 to 2018 before he oversaw and monitored the Public Sector Investment Program in his country.
As such, he was responsible for coordinating with Chinese government investors and contractors.
In his panel session at the Danube Institute, he provides a practitioner’s perspective on working with Chinese companies in Africa.
On the world stage, China’s Belt and Road Initiative is a geopolitical football. But at ground level, it’s also an efficient concern. Moore will explain how the system works. From first diplomatic contact, through financing arrangements, spades in the ground, all the way to ongoing lease and servicing agreements. If you’ve ever wanted to build a freight railway to the port of Libreville, this talk is for you.
