Join us on May 8th at the Danube Institute for the premier screening of the first episode of the documentary series based on Rod Dreher's bestselling book Live Not by Lies. This powerful film, produced by Angel Studios, explores the experiences of anti-communist dissidents from the Soviet bloc and their warning to the West about the dangers of "soft totalitarianism" — a rising force within modern society, particularly embodied in the phenomenon of wokeness.
The documentary serves as a timely examination of the evolving threats to freedom and individuality in the West, drawing parallels between the oppressive systems of the past and today's emerging ideological pressures. Dreher, who recently premiered the film in Washington, will be joined by the film’s director, Isaiah Smallman, for the Budapest premiere, offering insights into how this series sheds light on the challenges facing modern societies.
This first episode will delve into the personal stories of dissidents who fled Soviet rule and now see disturbing parallels in the current Western cultural climate. With profound lessons on resisting ideological control, this film is essential viewing, particularly for younger generations who may not recognize the signs of creeping authoritarianism in their own societies.
Don’t miss this chance to experience the film firsthand and engage in a discussion about the growing divide between freedom and conformity. The screening will be followed by a Q&A session with the filmmakers moderated by the President of Danube Institute John O’Sullivan.
