According to Tarasevich and other experts, the dramatic experience of starvation in Russia had been part and parcel of Russian existence for centuries.

Soma Hegedős, the senior research fellow at the Danube Institute wrote an article about the Historical Famine in Russia, which began in 1890. The article was published in the Hungarian Conservative.
