Powering the Future: Nuclear Innovation and Small Modular Reactors in Central Europe

As the global energy transition accelerates and electricity demand continues to grow, nuclear energy is increasingly recognized as a reliable and low-carbon source of stable power. In this context, Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) and Advanced Modular Reactors (AMRs) are emerging as some of the most promising innovations in nuclear technology. Thanks to their modular design, flexibility, and potentially faster construction timelines, these reactors could play an important role in supporting energy security and complementing renewable energy systems.

The United States has taken a leading role in advancing SMR technologies and developing regulatory frameworks that support innovation and deployment. At the same time, countries across Central Europe are exploring how these technologies could strengthen the resilience and sustainability of their energy systems.

For Hungary and the wider region, SMRs also represent a potential economic opportunity. With its long-standing nuclear expertise, industrial base, and strategic geographic location, Hungary could play an important role in regional cooperation, supply chains, and the future deployment of SMR technologies.

This event brings together policymakers, regulators, and leading experts from the United States and Europe to discuss the future of nuclear innovation, the role of SMRs in strengthening energy security, and the opportunities for regional cooperation in Central Europe.
