Realignment of the Right, Post EU Election, featuring Jan Zahradil, MEP Czech Republic and International Democracy Union VP

Dátum: 2024. március 27. (szerda), 16.30-tól Helyszín: Lónyay-Hatvany Villa - Csónak utca 1., 1015 Budapest

On March 27th, 2024, Jan Zahradil, MEP Czech Republic and International Democracy Union VP, will lead a discussion on upcoming EU elections and their potential impact.

European elections will take place in June, and European citizens from Austria and Lithuania to Portugal and the United Kingdom will also go to the polls over the course of the year. Weak economies, failed energy policies, and mass migration have alienated Europe’s native working and middle classes. Ignored and deplored by the mainstream European media and political and business elites, they are fertile ground for an appeal to national identity by new, insurgent parties of the right. Given their recent failure to address core conservative values, can mainstream European Conservative parties adjust to this new realignment of the right in a time of rising domestic tension and international anxiety?

Acting as respondents to VP Zahradil will be three of Danube Institute’s visiting fellows:
-Carlos Roa,  an American geopolitical analyst, journalist, and strategist
-Nathan Levine, Analyst and consultant on politics and international affairs
-Lana Starkey, Research Fellow at the Institute of Public Affairs
