Between 1939-1945 five film noirs were made in Hollywood and only afterward reached France, where they were screened in the summer of 1946 and became deeply influential on new wave directors. The Maltese Falcon was the first, followed by The Woman in the Window.
Our program series begins with a discussion of The Maltese Falcon. Through his lecture, Dr. Paul du Quenoy will set the film in context, with a discussion of the moral and political understanding promulgated in the noir genre. This will be followed by the showing of the film.
