The Place of Christianity in the Survival of the West

As Western culture drifts deeper into fragmentation, materialism, and technological domination, can it survive without recovering its Christian roots? This event explores how Christianity, as the richest and most embodied tradition of the West, offers a powerful alternative to the narrow, mechanistic worldview that now threatens our civilisation. Through myth, ritual, art, and lived witness, it reconnects us with beauty, meaning, relationship, and the sacred. The event will consider whether a genuine return to the deep roots of the Christian faith - placing it once again at the centre of our common life - is essential if we are to resist the dehumanising forces of technocracy, recover wisdom, and rediscover what truly gives life meaning and dignity.

In an age marked by rising anxiety, alienation, and loss of purpose, this gathering invites reflection on how the Christian story - with its emphasis on relationship, embodiment, sacrifice, and hope - may hold the key to snatching life from the jaws of cultural decline.

The event is the official launch of the Danube Institute Paper titled “The Place of Christianity in the Survival of the West”.
