To Greener Pastures – and Back: A Global Outlook on Migration

This panel confronts the rapidly shifting - and increasingly volatile - realities of global migration, tracing the dangerous pressure points emerging in countries of origin, along transit routes, and within destination states across both Europe and the Americas. It confronts the accelerating instability shaping global migration patterns across Europe and the Americas, exposing the mounting pressures in countries of origin, along increasingly weaponized transit corridors, and inside destination states that are struggling to maintain control. As failing government, criminal networks, and geopolitical shocks reshape mobility, experts warn that the critical question is no longer whether these systems will fail - but where they will break first.

Across the Atlantic, the United States is facing societal resistance to mass‑deportation initiatives in sanctuary cities hindering federal enforcement strategies. Meanwhile in Europe, bureaucratic paralysis, strategic hesitation, and repeated policy missteps have left the EU dangerously exposed, unable to manage inflows or enforce its own decisions. Together, these forces point toward a future in which unmanaged migration flows could ignite severe social unrest, political destabilization, and cascading security failures. By identifying the weak points in regions of origin, transit pathways, and overwhelmed host nations, this panel will map the emerging fault lines, and ask how the coming shockwaves can still be contained.
