Public-Private Cybersecurity Cooperation in Hungary

Analysis by Michelle Watson and Logan West, Visiting Research Fellows at the Danube Institute

Over the past several years, Hungary’s infrastructure has significantly grown in cyber-based capabilities. This has been enabled through the effective use of new, innovative technologies successfully implemented by government growth strategies and investments working efficiently with agile business organizations.

However, this renaissance has been accompanied by new security risks and dangers inherent with these developments at a time when the world is becoming more chaotic. Following decades of relative geopolitical stability, the world today is marked by increased geopolitical conflicts. In the digital realm, the consequences of this instability are the growing power of cybercriminals, a rise of nation-state adversaries’ attacks on critical infrastructure, increasingly sophisticated cyber threats, rapid advances in emerging technologies, and burgeoning attack surfaces. This has led to a cyberspace that is more dangerous and complex than ever before.
