Shutdowns from COVID and the subsequent realization that Western reliance on China for key components held inherent risks, similar risks revealed by the war in Ukraine and Western reliance on Russia for gas, and a rise in mechanical and digital automation through artificial intelligence have all contributed to the tumultuous economics of the present day.
